From 18 to 23 August 2024, Emilia had the chance to attend the 75th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry in Montr\u00e9al, Canada. The meeting started with a plenary lecture by Montr\u00e9al born Nobel Laureate Rudolph A. Marcus – yes, the one from Marcus Theory! – in which he presented his latest research and how it evolved from his earlier work on rate constant equations for electron, atomic and group transfers. The conference had many talks on applied electrochemistry, apart from batteries and fuel cells also on the use of ion exchange membranes in scaling up the electrolysis of ammonia by Prof. Gerardine G. Botte. Great sessions were also held on the topic of artificial photosynthesis with a talk on Electrochemical Leaf by prof. Clare Megarity and a excellent presentation on how different problems can lead to new discoveries by prof. Nicolas Plumer\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emilia also had the chance to learn about electrochemical drug detection, which is relevant for her new SONATA BIS project , presented by the groups of prof. Philippe Dauphin Ducharme, prof. \u0141ukasz P\u00f3\u0142torak and others. She learned about new ways to fabricate nanoparticle decorated electrodes by solid state dewetting (Marco Altomare), attended a workshop on hyphenated techniques and the Division 1 meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday she presented the work of the groups on “Better prediction of analyte content in complex samples using a low-cost sensor array and a conditional algorithm”, which attracted quite a crowd and many useful comments for future work.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
